Mahdi Stephens

August 5, 2006

Hi Danya,
My name is Mahdi and I am 6 years old. I hope your day is well in Boulder. I live in Indiana and I am having fun. I use to live in Boulder. My mom knows you and your family. I just wanted to thank you for adding the Magic Penny. My brother and I sing it everyday. We taught our friends Dawson and Ty. Someday we will be back in Boulder and I am shy but hope to meet you or see you sing.

Thank you for the song,
Mahdi

Danya,
This is Kim Quale Stephens, I worked for your mom it seems like forever ago. We moved from Boulder to Indiana, near the Chicago area. Came across your music through my Kundalini community here, glad that the blessings of Boulder Colorado have reached this far. My boys Mahdi, 6, and Che, 4, absolutely love the Maqic Penny and teach it to anyone who will listen. He wanted to write you a thank you as his gratitude blessing this week, and did a wonderful job without any help, but I am partial. He is a sweet spirit, and loves music.
Again, thank you for the wonderful song, your voice is beautiful, grateful to have been able to have been an ear shot away back then!

Please tell your family hello and Blessings,
Kim Quale Stephens

danya, we have met on different occasions in SF mostly thru Lord huckleberry, opal, poloroid(jason),
scatha, will and so on. You know my son Justin I believe, anyway why Im writing I also have a son named Harrison who is living Nederland and is a Jr in HS. He has expressed an interest in the recording industry , not as a singer but behind the scenes. I know Im pulling at straws here but would you know of a place in the Boulder area where he could get some exposure. Not a job, but a chance to see what the energy is in the industry. If you would like to know more about him you could contact any of the people in SF or my self. He lives in Ned and his # is 303-258-3558 I can be reached in portland OR at 971-226-5659. Any encouragement or help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much,

Hi Danya:

We met in San Luis Obispo a few years ago. I was the one sobbing to Dear Friend I'm in Love with you Again. You were playing with Irene from Rose Street.

I hope you're well and was also hoping to get a copy of the song about Sally who slipped at the bottom of the hill... the song has haunted me (in a good way) ever since you played it at a house concert in Malibu again a few years back.

Do you expect to be in LA at any point in the near future? We'd love to see you perform again.

You're an inspiration.

Danya is the best person ever to grace the musical stage. I have yet to meet any artist that gives so much of her genuine self through her performance as Danya does. If you have not yet had a chance to see her perform live, you are missing out on a truly spiritual experience.

The greatest gifts I know of are faith, hope and love. Many artists render by shading their subjects. May you continue to paint with light, and seek those who clearly understand this distinction. I have every confidence in you, and in the Spirit that guides you. Sending you my prayers, Jeseppi

"When Danya Sings"

When Danya Sings
I can finally hear the voice inside my head
Quiet and clear
Pure as the wandering notes of her voice
Drifting over me, into my soul
Beyond all my dreams
When Danya Sings

When Danya Sings
I grow up, grow outside myself
Grow beyond my little concerns
I find myself
I find you
I find all good things
When Danya Sings

When Danya Sings
The sun rises up and kisses the moon
And all the flowers swoon
At the beauty shooting through the air
Everything gets pretty everywhere
All my old loves are bursting at the seams
When Danya Sings

When Danya Sings
I can feel grass tickling my toes
And I can see Katies nose
And I know where the Wildflowers grow
When Danya Sings

When Danya Sings
It is Christmas Morning
And warm rain pouring
And true loves softly softly snoring
And there is no ignoring
When Danya Sings

I love her then most of all
Wild as the lone wolf call
Spirit bursting into flames
All the old parts are burned away
And in the ashes I became

The way that children play
The wisdom of the withered, old sage
Captured on the milky white page
The wandering notes of her voice
Running down from dreams to rage
And up there, under the lights, so close to me but on the stage

The truth shall be told
And things shall be new and then old
I shall be me
And we shall all be free
When Danya Sings

Beautiful River Deep

Voice of beauty
strength wrapped
in a shroud of sunshine

Peirced my soul
to the core deep
center

Shaking my inner
child
meek

Leaves rustle gentle
Wind blows gentle
Spirit flows gentle

Coversation
mouth
ear
touch gentle
I see

Reflection peers
at me wide eyed
open

Your glow held me
breathless
Your eyes hold me
still

Flow
leaving a delicate trail
of heavy steps crossed

Till your ventured
road parts my path

August 8, 2004

Danya - my husband and I heard and saw you play at a tiny folk festival in Winter Park this weekend. My husband - Nate Allman played before you arrived - and if feedback is as important to you as it is to him , then thought this would not fall on deaf ears. On the presumption that your humility is as intact as I judged it to be on stage - I wanted to let you know that I have not heard a voice, lyrics and stellar guitar performance from a chic like that, in years. I am a 30 year old, originally from South Africa, and have spent a fair time of my life travelling - and I have never heard a better performance. As far as I am concerned - move aside Shawn Colvin! You rock!! I foresee that your're going big places - enjoy the ride! We'll be following, from now on - what a beautiful, poetic time we had listening to you.
Looking forward to see what happens.

David Scott

August 2, 2004

Hi Danya, it's David Scott...electric guitarist at the Toad Tavern (boy, do we get the glamorous gigs!)

A fun evening of eclectic and talented female talent (even a half-hour of rehearsal with Marcy's material would have been nice...but I guess that sometimes you have to stand and face the wind).

Just wanted to let you know that you stole the show. You knocked me out. Such power, and delicacy, and presence. Just listened to "Bone by Bone" again...and again I'm wiping tears from my eyes. You are a gift.

Stay in touch, and I would treasure the opportunity to play music with you, anytime, anywhere.

Best,

David

PS -- If I'm real nice, will you show me a couple of those tunings?

Dave Freshman

August 1, 2004

Danya,
Thank you so very very much for having me play with you last night at Toad's Tavern. Your music takes me to special places; I am sure it takes you there too.
Call me if you ever need an extra player. I love your music dearly.

Terry

July 11, 2004

I saw you again today at Unity, for the third time. I expressed then partly how special your performance was for me, and having read your guestbook, I sense a lot of restraint from men and women attempting to not sound like stalkers. "Brought tears to my eyes" rang true though. I distinctly recall "Don't Draw the Shades" performaing some sort of ethereal soul penetration, energy of love and oneness fluxing through my body, resonating with the expression of desire for inner truth and honesty. Tears just seemed natural. I later wondered if the song is for each of us (as we sing it to ourselves), drawing our own spirit from within as we each beg our inner children to be released, rather than the simpler "I love you and want to get to knonw you better" theme which was my first impression. The second time I saw you, I'd already bought the CD, and so I gifted you, which seems not enough an expression of gratitude for the vision of spirit you gifted me with. So this third time, happy to get another CD, I gifted again, and soon after, again reflected how little it is, and really meaningless to give you cash in comparison with what you've given me/us. Your guestbook reflects also the love and caring so many of your friends have for you, and the resources of spirit you could pull from if in need. (Including the adult boys who are beside themselves with feelings they didn't even know they had til they saw you, and THEN heard you.)
We each connect with others, in a seemingly random way, which brings a special meaning to our lives. Sometimes we attract another, sometimes we're attracted. And frequently we connect, and don't really know why, only years later again wondering, either, what happened? or What might have happened? Rarely do two people attarct each other that way, for long, but when it does happen, it gives us a sense of wonder and perfection and deep loving care.
Sometimes we get that sense from meeting someone famous. An actor perhaps, informal, deigning to talk to us, hang out, whlie we stare, in awe of their perceived greatness, stuttering, autographs, and a long sense of wonder we can tell our friends about.
Bach says, "Imagine the infinite wonderful is, pristine and pefect in all its glory, and then KNOW, IT has imagined it a whole lot better than you have." (not exact quote-sorry). It's easy to say, that to meet god face to face to burn us to cinders for his glory would be too much for mortal man to gaze upon. But that's what angels are for.
The words, your voice, your smile, utterly gorgeous all, reach into us to connect. Not to merely pluck at heart strings, or make our pulse flutter, but to spiritually grasp our collective unconscious and gently shake the sleep from our souls, awakening us to the merest glimpse of the face of God.
The blessed virgin appearing on stage I think would have the same affect, (though I'm Buddhist, so maybe the Dalai Lama?)
I listened to the new CD in my car, and then Excalibur about three times, which did nothing to detract from your performance today.
Well, so there you are, perhaps really cool, a bit poetic, very much an epiphany, and a greeting and salutation, and much more.
I remember once reminiscing about joke or riddle, or perhaps a philosophical question that went something like this. What do you wonder about? What thing would you most like to understand? What curiosity do you have, that if present before God, and you could ask but one question, what would you ask him?
And immediately, it dawned on me, the only correct question. There are lots of wonderous and curious things, but to be before God, with such an opportunity, there is only one correct question, (again drawing loosely from Bach), "Dear Lord, what do YOU wish, and what you have me do for thee?"
So I figure that blessing you, or offering prayers would be like offering a glass of water to a woman at the base of a waterfall.
Bless you anyway, and all those who listen, in whatever form, for all the days of your life, and beyond. But more important, thanks for the glimpse into heaven. (and for the hugs too!) :)
