Really enjoyed the show in Plymouth, New Hampshire. It's good to hear music that I can get excited about again; it's been so long.

Good to hear from you. Hope all is well. Sounds like fun visiting the NE part of the country. Hurry up & come back to Kansas, well I guess I met you in Missouri. It is not as cold here as up North. I am glad Kristy got her hair cut, but she could have gotten it cut (& colored purple) @ Suzie's Salon Designz next door to Davey's Uptown! Have a great time!

Danya - my husband and I heard and saw you play at a tiny folk festival in Winter Park this weekend. My husband - Nate Allman played before you arrived - and if feedback is as important to you as it is to him , then thought this would not fall on deaf ears. On the presumption that your humility is as intact as I judged it to be on stage - I wanted to let you know that I have not heard a voice, lyrics and stellar guitar performance from a chic like that, in years. I am a 30 year old, originally from South Africa, and have spent a fair time of my life travelling - and I have never heard a better performance. As far as I am concerned - move aside Shawn Colvin! You rock!! I foresee that your're going big places - enjoy the ride! We'll be following, from now on - what a beautiful, poetic time we had listening to you.
Looking forward to see what happens.

David Scott

August 2, 2004

Hi Danya, it's David Scott...electric guitarist at the Toad Tavern (boy, do we get the glamorous gigs!)

A fun evening of eclectic and talented female talent (even a half-hour of rehearsal with Marcy's material would have been nice...but I guess that sometimes you have to stand and face the wind).

Just wanted to let you know that you stole the show. You knocked me out. Such power, and delicacy, and presence. Just listened to "Bone by Bone" again...and again I'm wiping tears from my eyes. You are a gift.

Stay in touch, and I would treasure the opportunity to play music with you, anytime, anywhere.

Best,

David

PS -- If I'm real nice, will you show me a couple of those tunings?

Dave Freshman

August 1, 2004

Danya,
Thank you so very very much for having me play with you last night at Toad's Tavern. Your music takes me to special places; I am sure it takes you there too.
Call me if you ever need an extra player. I love your music dearly.

Danya's the sort of lady one might let borrow one's keys to go and borrow one's guitar from the trunk of one's Chevy Cavalier at a Folk Festival in upstate NY. She is also very good at hanging around with one and a crazy photographer. She is also the kind of lady one might suddenly think of months later and want to say hello. Hello.

I saw you again today at Unity, for the third time. I expressed then partly how special your performance was for me, and having read your guestbook, I sense a lot of restraint from men and women attempting to not sound like stalkers. "Brought tears to my eyes" rang true though. I distinctly recall "Don't Draw the Shades" performaing some sort of ethereal soul penetration, energy of love and oneness fluxing through my body, resonating with the expression of desire for inner truth and honesty. Tears just seemed natural. I later wondered if the song is for each of us (as we sing it to ourselves), drawing our own spirit from within as we each beg our inner children to be released, rather than the simpler "I love you and want to get to knonw you better" theme which was my first impression. The second time I saw you, I'd already bought the CD, and so I gifted you, which seems not enough an expression of gratitude for the vision of spirit you gifted me with. So this third time, happy to get another CD, I gifted again, and soon after, again reflected how little it is, and really meaningless to give you cash in comparison with what you've given me/us. Your guestbook reflects also the love and caring so many of your friends have for you, and the resources of spirit you could pull from if in need. (Including the adult boys who are beside themselves with feelings they didn't even know they had til they saw you, and THEN heard you.)
We each connect with others, in a seemingly random way, which brings a special meaning to our lives. Sometimes we attract another, sometimes we're attracted. And frequently we connect, and don't really know why, only years later again wondering, either, what happened? or What might have happened? Rarely do two people attarct each other that way, for long, but when it does happen, it gives us a sense of wonder and perfection and deep loving care.
Sometimes we get that sense from meeting someone famous. An actor perhaps, informal, deigning to talk to us, hang out, whlie we stare, in awe of their perceived greatness, stuttering, autographs, and a long sense of wonder we can tell our friends about.
Bach says, "Imagine the infinite wonderful is, pristine and pefect in all its glory, and then KNOW, IT has imagined it a whole lot better than you have." (not exact quote-sorry). It's easy to say, that to meet god face to face to burn us to cinders for his glory would be too much for mortal man to gaze upon. But that's what angels are for.
The words, your voice, your smile, utterly gorgeous all, reach into us to connect. Not to merely pluck at heart strings, or make our pulse flutter, but to spiritually grasp our collective unconscious and gently shake the sleep from our souls, awakening us to the merest glimpse of the face of God.
The blessed virgin appearing on stage I think would have the same affect, (though I'm Buddhist, so maybe the Dalai Lama?)
I listened to the new CD in my car, and then Excalibur about three times, which did nothing to detract from your performance today.
Well, so there you are, perhaps really cool, a bit poetic, very much an epiphany, and a greeting and salutation, and much more.
I remember once reminiscing about joke or riddle, or perhaps a philosophical question that went something like this. What do you wonder about? What thing would you most like to understand? What curiosity do you have, that if present before God, and you could ask but one question, what would you ask him?
And immediately, it dawned on me, the only correct question. There are lots of wonderous and curious things, but to be before God, with such an opportunity, there is only one correct question, (again drawing loosely from Bach), "Dear Lord, what do YOU wish, and what you have me do for thee?"
So I figure that blessing you, or offering prayers would be like offering a glass of water to a woman at the base of a waterfall.
Bless you anyway, and all those who listen, in whatever form, for all the days of your life, and beyond. But more important, thanks for the glimpse into heaven. (and for the hugs too!) :)

I had the pleasure of seeing Danya at the People's Fair in Denver 2 weeks ago. Fabulous performance, Danya! I am in awe of your talent. As a somewhat successful musician myself, it takes a lot to send goosebumps up my spine, yet you accomplished that. The last tune performed was "San Francisco" I believe (having purchased 2 CD's while at the show I was familiar with the song). Great song, great live performance.

June 16, 2004

Being Dutch I found your CD on CDBaby, a store where I sometimes shop around. I am really enjoying your original sound and your soulful voice. A pity that your new album only has five songs.........
Are you planning to do Europe one day?

Dear Danya:

I was the silly fellow in the white Volvo V70 you stopped in Medford, MA, to get directions to Passim's in Cambridge, MA. I didn't have an opportunity to get to your performance, I trust you made it in time, and safely? Best to you for a wonderful summer.

Cheers,

well, a couple friends of mine and i saw danya a couple weeks ago at the coffee and tea room in pa.. she was exquisite.. I just sat back and this little lady belts out a voice that I didn't think could come from her. There are some moments that still stick in my mind, from that night. During "Stir My Honey" when it seemed like she was singing to me and all I could do was smile, and then she smiled back... Yeah. The conversation I had with her, My brother had an even longer conversation with her. We're About Nine opened up for her and was so interesting and so talented. So, my brother and I now have cd's that we love from Danya and We're About Nine, when we hadn't even heard of them before that night.. we were just looking to see some good music in a chill spot. I definitely enjoyed the night, and would love it if Danya came out this way again.

Very nice web site. Thank you for providing such a wonderful resource. If you ever visit the Virginia or North Carolina Beaches, please visit our Unity Renaissance Church. Our web site at http://www.unityren.com has directions and details. We are located in the Southside Tidewater region at the juncture of the cities of Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Chesapeake, VA. We are, however, within easy driving distance of all of Tidewater, from Newport News and Hampton to Suffolk and Portsmouth. Blessings - Will

Great performance last night at the D-Note in Arvada.
Just wanted to correct something I said at a late hour. I complimented you by saying you were loud and several other strange adjectives. Sorry, it was late and my mind was already half asleep. What I meant to say about your singing was "powerful, sophisticated and mezmerizing."
Thanks!

Cool Danya. You don't know me but I'm a singer songwriter from Ireland. I kind of know your mom: she has been pretty cool to me. I'd love to hear your ep, just tell me how to get it. I can't buy it with a credit card 'cause I blew all the money!!! Anyway, I'll find a way of getting it, I'll talk to my manager. I have an ep coming out in either september to november and things are going pretty cool for me here in Ireland, and I hope to be going to America some time this year. my website is www.majellamurphy.com
hope to hear from you.

Danya, Thank you for playing at the Keystone Conference Center Tuesday at the Restorative Justice Conference. I wish you great success, and deep happiness for you and your friends, and those who help you to go all the way! Sincerely, Stephen May

Oh, and since you provided the opportunity to spout poetry I thought I would share my favorite Robert Creeley poem:

OH NO

If you wander far enough
you will come to it
and when you get there
they will give you a place to sit

for yourself only, in a nice chair
and all your friends will be there
with smiles on their faces
and they will likewise
all have places
