Playing at Sundance! - January 11, 2009

So I got an invitation to play at the Sundance Film Festival next week...as part of a beautiful 3 day fundraiser to help rebuild a hospital in Guatemala.

A wonderful opportunity to play, be a part of something good, connect with people in the film and music industries...

really looking forward to it :)

CD Update - November 20, 2008

Hello Fellow Humans :)

I just realized that I never let you know that we completed production on the new CD last month! It is mixed, mastered and awaiting production. It may still be awhile (6 months or so) before it is available to the public as I am first pulling together a top-notch management team and business plan.

I have been talking to all kinds of wonderful industry folks lately and some interesting possibilities are opening up for both management and distribution for the new album. It will be awhile before all of that it lined up and the CD is released, but I am patient. I'm setting myself up for a sustainable powerhouse career.

And again, if you know anyone in the industry I should talk to about management connections, please let me know!

In the meantime, happy holidays to you. I hope this finds you well and inspired by all the hope stirring up in the world these days.

I know I am.

With love and gratitude,

Danya

We Are the Ones We've Been Waiting For - August 12, 2008

Dear friends and dear community,
I was reminded the other day of this beautiful piece of wisdom from the Hopi Elders. You may or may not be familiar with it, but it speaks to me strongly right now. I can feel the tides turning in our country, in our communities and in my own heart and mind. It is an exciting and confusing and uncertain time ...I hope this touches you the way it touches me:

-------------------------------------
The Hopi Elders Speak:

"You have been telling the people that this is the Eleventh Hour.

Now you must go back and tell the people that this is The Hour.

And there are things to be considered:

Where are you living?

What are you doing?

What are your relationships?

Are you in right relation?

Where is your water?

Know your garden.

It is time to speak your Truth.

Create your community. Be good to each other. And do not look outside yourself for the leader.

This could be a good time!

There is a river flowing now very fast. It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid. They will try to hold on to the shore. They will feel they are being torn apart, and they will suffer greatly.

Know the river has its destination. The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river, keep our eyes open, and our heads above the water. See who is in there with you and celebrate.

At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally. Least of all, ourselves. For the moment that we do, our spiritual growth and journey comes to a halt.

The time of the lone wolf is over. Gather yourselves!

Banish the word struggle from your attitude and your vocabulary.

All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.

We are the ones we've been waiting for."

I rode my bike to the mall today! - July 18, 2008

I know that's an awfully silly thing to report to a music fan, but oh, well! That's what's on Danya River's mind this Friday evening.

So here we go: I generally hate shopping and had to pick up a few things, namely the (all so important) fake eyelashes for my photo shoot on Monday! And guess what, the errands were quite spifferifically fun on my bike. And I didn't even get hit by a car!

breakthrough!

And guess what #2, (this one you'll actually care about) we're mastering the new record this week! One step closer to sharing it with you! it's really quite lovely and I'm excited about it.

So, Monday I'm off to get some super hot photos taken.

And then get me a manager, get this album out to you, and take this show on the road! ;)

Also, over the last year, I've been expanding my practice as a creativity and songwriting coach. Working with artists across the country to support them with revitalizing their creative pursuits, refining their craft and expanding their creative horizons (as songwriters or other creators). I LOVE this work. it is so fun and so rewarding. Let me know if you'd like to try a coaching session!

Maybe next I'll become an acrobat or a lawyer or a vegetarian hotdog vendor or something. got to keep growing and exploring life, right?!

love to you,

danya

finally... - November 27, 2007

an update!

Happy holidays to you! things are swinging along with the new recording...aiming for a spring release. It's sounding so great! I'm excited! Can't wait to share it with you.

I just moved into a beautiful apartment near downtown Boulder. It's underneath a cute house that my sister, brother-in-law and adorable one-year-old nephew are now living in. I LOVE MY FAMILY! They are so great. I'm appreciating everyone so much more. I love watching my sister with my nephew. Motherhood is amazing and mothers are even more amazing. I don't know how they do it.

Thank you mom!

I have a painting studio at my new house and have begun painting again. I'm mostly aware of how much I don't know and am hungrily searching the internet, the library and galleries for more painting techniques and tips. so much to learn! :)

Still off the road and enjoying a quiet life. Presently developing and scripting a guitar-teaching software for a company based in LA. I love that I have a new career every few months. It keeps me learning.

I just came across a new book that I think I'll buy. Check this out! http://www.gettingagrip.net/look-inside/introduction-to-getting-a-grip/
Wishing you health, love and fulfillment

With gratitude,

An ecoxexy tip - June 2, 2007

Hi everyone!

As an avid ecosexual, I'm always looking for new ways to reduce my carbon emissions and sustain a beautiful, healthy planet for generations to come to thrive in and enjoy.

Here is a quick way to find out the savings (money and CO2) that you could make by switching out a few incandescent light bulbs for compact flourescents (which by the way don't buzz or flicker like the long tube ones...they're really quite pleasant)

New Single: Danya cover's Alanis Morissette - May 1, 2007

Dear friends, fans and family-

Greetings from Boulder! I hope this finds you well and that you are
reveling in the yumminess of spring. Please excuse my extended
absence. It's time for a long-overdue update!

So here's what's going on:

I. new single! (Alanis Morissette cover!)
II. what I've been up to
III. on the recording front

I. NEW SINGLE DOWNLOAD!

I recorded a cover of Alanis Morissette's song, "You Learn". It's low
and sexy, in an Annie Lennox sort of way and has groovy Zap Mama-esque
harmonies. I think you'll like it a lot. I had a great time producing
it with Denver's own, Lance Bendiksen. For clever marketing reasons, the title of the single is called "Thank You Alanis Morissette". Take a listen and purchase it for just $.99 at one of these two locations:

iTunes:
http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playListId=211036528
AOL Puretracks:

Enjoy!!!!

WHAT I'VE BEEN UP TO:
I've been off the road and living in my hometown, Boulder, CO, for
the last two years. There has been some speculation as to whether I had given up on music or not. I'm telling you now that my music is
alive and well and I'm working on a new CD. Living on the road and
touring by myself was very stressful for me and I ran into some major health issues living that lifestyle. So I took the last two years out
of the limelight to straighten my health out.

I've been at home, living a quieter life and learning a LOT about
what it takes to live from the inside out: to listen to and tend to
the needs of my body before they become problems. To slow down and
to stop driving to succeed above all else. I've been learning how to
balance myself with food, exercise, physical therapy, sleep,
spiritual practice, etc... I'm feeling much better, loving being
alive, and I'm glad to be figuring all this out now, while I'm
young.

People around town and via e-mail often ask me when I'll be
performing again. I've always panicked when I heard that
question...like I'll have to sacrifice my wellbeing again in order to
"perform". But I'm starting to see that I can actually just be myself
with you: that you are compassionate, loving people who want me to be well. And I don't have to do it alone. Good news!

I love sharing beauty and truth with people through music. I know it
is one of the gifts I have been given in this life, and that it is
meant as a gift to the community. You have my promise that I will
pursue my music career in a way that is healthy, nourishing, fun and
an example of well-rounded success. I'm not playing martyr anymore.
I'm bored with that game. So that's that! :)

III. ON THE RECORDING FRONT:

Last year I met an incredible producer, Michael Hynes, who has
partnered with me to create a new album. We have been working on it
down in Austin, and it is sounding gorgeous. It is sophisticated,
interesting, radio-friendly, heart-felt and beautiful...and very
catchy! I'm expanding beyond my coffee-shop singer-songwriter roots
and giving my songs and voice some pop wings to fly out into the
mainstream. I am very excited about and proud of the work we are
doing and look forward to sharing it with you when it is complete.

Thank you for your care & friendship and for being the beautiful
people that you are.

I look forward to seeing you down the road.

With love,

Danya River

Kirtana's Official Release & Back to the Studio - October 14, 2006

Hi all!
The CD I've been working on with my dad has just been released. I'm very proud of it, and I think you'll really enjoy it, too! Check it out: http://www.springhillmedia.com/specials.html
"Kirtana" was just approved for a major Border's Bookstore promotion and can be found on every Border's listening rack through December. Happy holidays!

As for me, I'm off to Austin to start tracking my new solo CD. I'll be workng with producer, Michael Hynes, at The Hideout (studio). We're putting down the drums and bass this week. I'm so excited!

Also, my sister (out in CA) is about to have a baby boy. I'm going to be an auntie in a few weeks. I just had to share that with you. What a beautiful thrill. I love my family.

Love to you all.

Hey all, the website has improved - June 12, 2006

Hi all!
Missed you ;)

I made some updates to the site (especially the "music" link that now has a shopping cart and pretty links to CD Baby and also the scrolling marquee on the front page). I'm very proud of myself ;)

I also caved and put up a Myspace page. Check it out: http://www.myspace.com/danyariver
Come be my new myspace friend ;)

"Kirtana" (the album with my dad) is in the last stages of production. It sounds great. We just mastered it and are completing the artwork. It should be out by autumn at the latest...depends on the label and when is best for them to release it. I will keep you posted.

I'm having a glorious summer in Boulder. As you can see, not much performing happening at present, but I'm at work on a third CD of original music with an Austin-based producer and angel named Michael Hynes. Very exciting partnership...

Hope this finds you well.

Thanks for coming by to visit.

Love,

Danya

Working on a New CD with my Dad - November 17, 2005

Hiya!
I'm writing from the studio in Boulder where I'm mixing a new album with my dad.

The CD will be released next year and is called "Kirtan." It is a collection of Sanskrit chants in the traditional call-and-response style with me and my dad calling and a choir responding.

If you're curious about my dad's other music and my parents' consciousness workshops, you can find them at: http://www.sacredunion.com
Have a happy Thanksgiving.

Alive and Well in Boulder - September 13, 2005

Thank you for visiting.
I love you. You are radiant!

I am in Boulder watching autum breathe over the hills. Been learning how to listen.

I chose not to sign with the managers I spoke of in my previous entries and my heart is quiet and deliciously alive. I turned the three-car garage in the house I'm renting into an art studio to dive into my other love of painting and the visual arts.

I'll reemerge with blooming colors sometime soon. Enjoying the creative gestation for now.

Sending you wishes for a brilliant fall.

Your friend,

Danya

From the Garden State - June 17, 2005

Hi.
I'm in Skillman, NJ with the family. We're here to celebrate my grandmother's 90th birthday. What a remarkable woman. She LOVES to travel and went to Argentina and Chile last year and is making plans to go to Morocco!

I'm taking a brief break from touring to focus on writing, recording and building relationships for the next stage of my career.

Thanks for checking in. I'll keep you posted as things develops.

In the meantime, all my best.

on Turning 25 and Spring in Boulder - April 21, 2005

Happy Blooming Fellow Humans!

I am so happy is is Springing time. I am a jittery Aries bug and I just turned 25 years old on March 28th, and life is WONDERFUL!

In the last months, I have been in the first stages of developing a team (management/artist-development and production) to launch my career to the next level. I am in conversation with some incredibly skilled, huge hearted and wise people, and things are starting to move in big ways.

I will share more as it comes.

My best to you and your loved ones on this April Day.

SINGING IN WALES - January 26, 2005

Dearly Beloved,
I am having a splendid time staying put in Boulder for a couple of months. I am writing, singing with a new band, Fraga, exploring life and love, dancing, etc...

Kreg Viesselman's http://www.kregviesselman.com UK label is flying me to Wales at the end of March to record vocals on his upcoming release. I have always had a secret dream to visit Wales and four days after I spoke this dream aloud for the first time, Kreg calls me and asks me if I'd like a free trip there. It was spooky, mystical, amazing and of course, I said "yes! please!"

So, I am going to visit Faerie Land and spend a couple weeks romping around in March/April. If you have any friends over in the UK that you think might want me to come play a house concert, please let me know!

May you have a New Year that draws you into the experience of being alive in new and beautiful ways.

All my best,

Danya River

NEW WEBSITE! - January 4, 2005

Hey everyone!
I just put up this new website. I'm SO excited. It's quirky. Like me. It makes me smile.

I'm having urges to run around naked in the snow, or boldly see if the lake outside my house is frozen, or go sledding. It is a glorious new year, and I'm celebrating!

May you be toasty and in love with life.

Yours and yet all my own,

Danya
