Dear friends, fans and family-
Greetings from Boulder! I hope this finds you well and that you are
reveling in the yumminess of spring. Please excuse my extended
absence. It's time for a long-overdue update!
So here's what's going on:
I. new single! (Alanis Morissette cover!)
II. what I've been up to
III. on the recording front
I. NEW SINGLE DOWNLOAD!
I recorded a cover of Alanis Morissette's song, "You Learn". It's low
and sexy, in an Annie Lennox sort of way and has groovy Zap Mama-esque
harmonies. I think you'll like it a lot. I had a great time producing
it with Denver's own, Lance Bendiksen. For clever marketing reasons, the title of the single is called "Thank You Alanis Morissette". Take a listen and purchase it for just $.99 at one of these two locations:

WHAT I'VE BEEN UP TO:
I've been off the road and living in my hometown, Boulder, CO, for
the last two years. There has been some speculation as to whether I had given up on music or not. I'm telling you now that my music is
alive and well and I'm working on a new CD. Living on the road and
touring by myself was very stressful for me and I ran into some major health issues living that lifestyle. So I took the last two years out
of the limelight to straighten my health out.
I've been at home, living a quieter life and learning a LOT about
what it takes to live from the inside out: to listen to and tend to
the needs of my body before they become problems. To slow down and
to stop driving to succeed above all else. I've been learning how to
balance myself with food, exercise, physical therapy, sleep,
spiritual practice, etc... I'm feeling much better, loving being
alive, and I'm glad to be figuring all this out now, while I'm
young.
People around town and via e-mail often ask me when I'll be
performing again. I've always panicked when I heard that
question...like I'll have to sacrifice my wellbeing again in order to
"perform". But I'm starting to see that I can actually just be myself
with you: that you are compassionate, loving people who want me to be well. And I don't have to do it alone. Good news!
I love sharing beauty and truth with people through music. I know it
is one of the gifts I have been given in this life, and that it is
meant as a gift to the community. You have my promise that I will
pursue my music career in a way that is healthy, nourishing, fun and
an example of well-rounded success. I'm not playing martyr anymore.
I'm bored with that game. So that's that! :)
III. ON THE RECORDING FRONT:
Last year I met an incredible producer, Michael Hynes, who has
partnered with me to create a new album. We have been working on it
down in Austin, and it is sounding gorgeous. It is sophisticated,
interesting, radio-friendly, heart-felt and beautiful...and very
catchy! I'm expanding beyond my coffee-shop singer-songwriter roots
and giving my songs and voice some pop wings to fly out into the
mainstream. I am very excited about and proud of the work we are
doing and look forward to sharing it with you when it is complete.
Thank you for your care & friendship and for being the beautiful
people that you are.
I look forward to seeing you down the road.
With love,
Danya River
